bad roots makes bad apples by Corpse-boy bad roots makes bad apples by Corpse-boy
"your Influence are your roots, if they are bad, then most likely your seeds will be bad as well."

a quote i made up to go with the painting, its about an apple tree that so happens to be growing in a cemetery that's grounds has been littered with just about every thing bad, needles, drugs, bottles, bones and TV's, all of these in which the tree's roots have grown into that has spoiled it's fruit, making them black with a shade of red. skull apples.

this painting has pretty much boosted my confidence in painting more, im pretty impressed with the sky and how well the black contrast of the tree and foreground fits in.

painted on a fairly large white canvas, with black/white and red acrylic paint . total time to complete, 7 hours 23 minutes, in 2 sessions.
forgive me for the poor quality in the camera, had to use my i-phone XP

Great work! I really like how you inverted the contrasts for the underground bit. That's really cool.

Dammit. You're a reverse-plagarist. Just kidding. ;) See, it's just this is the painting that has been brewing in my mind for the last few months. I started it yesterday. Acrylic on canvas. I mean, mine is taking on an entirely different tenor - brooding blue sky, rich red-brown soil - but there are many similarities, too. The tree at center stage. The cutaway view of the roots underground. And, of course, the message. Your roots connect seamlessly with your branches. Your root condition, which is invisible to others (and only somewhat visible to yourself) will be reflected in your branches, which are visible to everyone (perhaps more so to the others than to yourself). Yeah. In a way it's the same painting. But mine will come out very different looking from yours.

Except I wanna take your inverted contrast idea for the underground part. I actually came here searching for tree roots to get some inspiration on how to do that part.

This is really good 8D And I adore the symbolism and idea behind it :3 The details on this are GREAT. I LOVE THAT SKY!! I like that the main lighting is from behind, which gives the graves/crosses a very eerie, almost glowy look to them :3 Those many, many roots must have taken forever haha! Evul needlesssssssssss U8 I like Tvs though XD THEY SHOW ME THINGS LIKE ADVENTURE TIME. AND THOSE LOVELY, LOVELY COMMERCIALS ABOUT FAST FOOD MILKSHAKES AND ICE CREAMS TOPPED WITH EVERYTHING FROM PEANUTS AND FUDGE TO HAMSTERS AND BANDAIDS /da fuck. I'm glad you stuck to mainly monochrome for this :3 It really makes the few splashes of red pop! ...I'm sorry though, but if I ever came across a grave tree with an eyeball, I'd be unable to stop myself from poking it :| :eye: WOULD IT EAT ME THOUGH. THIS TREE. DO YOU THINK? 8D *runs towards it with finger outstretched* XD

You've improved a lot since I last saw your stuff :3 Good work! :+fav:

P.S: I wanna make skullpple pie out of dem skullpples :pie: >U

Love the quote. Love the painting. Love the cloudy, dark background that contrasts so well.
Good job.

Love the concept and the quote, and especilly the painting itself. The contrast, definetely the contrast, is GREAT for an uneditted painting. The whole thing just really catches your eye. I'm quite impressed :P
